On the afternoon of November 18th, 2023, Associate Professor Samad Sepasgozar from the University of New South Wales, Australia, visited Tsinghua University’s New Civil Engineering Building He conducted academic exchanges with faculty and students, delivering a lecture titled "AI and digital twin advances and future of the industry." Participants included faculty members from the Department of Civil Engineering, such as Professor Lu Xinzheng, Professor Gu Chen, and Assistant Professor Lin Jiarui, as well as Professor Gao Ge, from Tsinghua University's Information National Research Center and civil engineering students. Active discussions and idea exchanges took place with Associate Professor Sepasgozar during the session.

Associate Professor Sepasgozar explored the impact of digital technology on future markets and the role of artificial intelligence in construction engineering digitization. He clarifies the distinctions and applications of virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality platforms, and digital twins. Additionally, he showcased his team’s latest augmented reality construction monitoring system, allowing attendees to engage in hands-on demonstrations.

Following the presentation, faculty and students discussed future trends in intelligent construction on Mars, the disparity between Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation and current engineering construction practices, and debated the future interaction and collaboration between human engineers and construction robots.
